sony vaio vgx xl201,surround sound how?

So I have this media pc thingy,but how do I get the surround sound out of all of it?Do I need an amp?If so what sort and which ports do I go through.Peakers are already up and wired but did not know how to get 5.1 sound out to them,must need an amp connected to audio out or one of the many other outputs???
