Which is faster: 256 DDR SDRAM or 512 SDRAM?

I read that DDR SDRAM runs twice as fast as SDRAM, so is 256 DDR exactly equivalent to 512 SDRAM? My motherboard supports both. Which should I choose?

DDR is faster yes – but the 512/256 is a measurement of size – not speed.

Two different memory speeds?

I have two 1gb memory cards but they are different speeds. Should I have matching pairs of speed?
These are the speeds
DDR PC2700
DDR PC3200

with diff speeds there is no prob, but memory will run at slower speed for both.
