What type of memory is compatible with my motherboard?

O Hai!

I have a GIGABYTE GA-8SIML Motherboard and currently have 2x 512 memory sticks installed. One of them came with the PC (Packard Bell iMedia 848), and a year later we bought another one. The second one we bought has a sticker on it.

It says “Infineon 64Mx64 SDRAM PC2700-25330-80 512MB,DDR,333,CL.25″

We were thinking of getting rid of both sticks and getting 2x 1GB memory sticks as we have Windows Vista Home Basic (running on 1GB) and want to upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium.

Does anyone know what the max type of ram my motherboard can take or what is recommended for my computer to run Windows Vista Home Premium? It will also be used as a bit of a gaming computer to play HL2 mods (like Counter-Strike:Source, Team Fortress 2 etc.).

Go to the following link, http://www.crucial.com/uk they can do an on line check which will determine which ram your motherboard supports. They will recommend the optimum amount. You can order on line and although they are not the cheapest it is worth paying for good ram. They guarantee compatibility with your motherboard and give an excellent warranty.They also give fitting instructions. I have used them many times and always been satisfied. Hope this helps.
