Can a 800 Mhz compatible RAM upgrade work on a 1 Ghz computer?
I have a computer and i want to get a ram upgrade and the only ones that i see are either over or under 1 Ghz so can i use the 800 Mhz RAM upgrade on my 1 Ghz computer?
1GHz sounds like a clock speed. If your CPU clock speed is really 1GHz, you need to not worry about buying RAM for that system…it is too old to upgrade. Upgrading that would be a waste of money.
If your CPU clock speed is 2GHz or faster and you have 1GB *or less* of RAM installed, it would be worth it to upgrade to 1.5 or 2GB of RAM.
But in order to find out what kind of RAM you need, you need to find the exact model number of your motherboard. The easiest way to do that is to open up your computer case and use a flashlight to read the model number off of the top of the mainboard itself. Or if you have a pre-built system by dell or HP or whatever, you can get the model number of the computer off of the outside of the computer and plug that into the search engine at www.crucial.com to find out what kind of RAM you need.
