Why is older DIMM memory more expensive than new DD2 DIMM?
I just don’t understand this at all.
You can buy a 2 GB kit of DDR2 SDRAM memory cheaper than you can 2 GB of PC 133 SDRAM. I just did…..buy the DDR2 that is….
This is ridulous…….9 year old memory technology is more expensive than today’s memory……is today’s memory less durable or is it supply and demand or what?
I don’t get it….I have one 2000 and one 2001 model desktop and I was shopping for upgrading memory for them and found this to be the fact.
Just as I finally figured…..Supply and Demand.
I agree with everyone – new technologies (once mainstream and popular) drive the price down while old technologies get less buyers and get more expensive.
The good news is that while everybody is upgrading to DDR2, many of them are selling off their old DDR266, DDR333 and DDR400. I bought a 2GB pair of DDR400 on eBay for a great price and upgraded my “old” Athlon64 computer for less than the RAM ever sold for new. I sell 512MB sticks of DDR266 on eBay for only about $15 per stick – you buy and install 4 of those and for $60 you have 2GB!!
Good Luck
